Happy Birthday to Karissa Hess who turned 16 Sunday! She is now a LAUREL!!!

Mutual this week- combined YW/YM, geocaching!!!!!

Note from Sister Haggard- if anyone is interested in getting together over Christmas break for fun activities, let Sister Sherman or I know and we will announce it so you can get a group together.
One idea...Broomball at the Ice Palace (tennis shoes on the ice, pushing brooms to score goals!) It would cost $7.50/person if we could find 40 people to play. (I could ask other wards. It sounds like a blast! Maybe a fun group date! or a fun group of friends activity, etc.) It's probably a midnight activity. Let Sis Haggard know soon because it will take some work to find 40 people.

Announcements for the week of 10/29- 11/4

TOMORROW is the Fall Festival! 6:30-8:30 at the Stake Center. It will be inside, and you should wear a costume!!! Also INVITE INVITE INVITE your friends!

On the topic of inviting, you guys have been doing a great job inviting friends to activities. Karissa Hess has asked that you make it a goal of yours to invite a friend every time we have combined YW/YM or even combined YW. She says that it is a LOT of fun, and a wonderful, invigorating feeling every time she invites, whether or not they end up coming! And the more that you invite, the easier it will become. Just FYI, our next combined YW/YM in November is geocaching, and outside AWESOME activity.

If you are interested in learning how to make applesauce and can it, go to Sister Mittleman's house this Saturday at 2pm. She has A TON of apples from her apple trees and she wants to show you how! This will take a few hours, but is totally worth it. If you plan on coming, please bring 1-2 glass jars to can the sauce in.

Beehives and Miamaids are teaching primary next Sunday. If you haven't gotten an assignment yet, please contact Sister Johnson ASAP. This will be during third hour.

Savanna Carlile spoke to us last Sunday about Personal progress and completing Good Works #3.  Read Mosiah 18: 7-10. Write down in your journal or somewhere three ways to comfort others and then actually do them! Talk to your family about your experiences. If you do this this upcoming week, bring your personal progress manual and Savanna will sign it off!!!

Do you remember making and wrapping boxes last year for Veteran's? The project is here again! We have people that will be delivering boxes to Veteran's Hospital in Long Beach, but we need people to put together boxes and wrap them. Items to be included in the boxes are toiletries, cards, socks, candies, games, slippers and so on. If you would be interested in helping make these boxes please contact Sister Gold, as they are due by December 4th.

Everyone show up at the church and we will split off from there.

And if you haven't heard, our new youth curriculum is now THE youth curriculum for the church!

I would like to remind you of Sister Haggard's invitation to go camping...she sent this email out.....

This is not a mutual activity, but my family is going camping, wondering if any other families want to come play.

friday after work, november 2, we are going to point mugu (2 hrs north on the coast).  we will camp at point mugu, sycamore canyon DEV.  it's $45 for one site with 8 people (plus probably $8 fee).  we have room for 4 more on our site.  the whole campground is available right now.  that would be nice if we had the whole campground to ourselves!  is that because november is cold?

it feels like mountain camping (coastal mountains - shady sycamores) but it's walking distance under a bridge to the beach, 1/4 mile?  cute, rocky beach - not like our southern cal beaches.

Hopefully you all went last night to hear from Sister Jacobsen and got a little writing practice in!

-This Saturday from 8:30-10:45pm there is a dance at the stake center. It is a Christmas theme, so wear red and green, heck, wear a Santa hat if you have one! Dress like a candy cane, Rudolph, or a Christmas tree! ( oh I can totally see that being cute! ) FSOY standards, no tank tops or shorts.

-The annual coed volleyball tournament is back! Teams can be anyone from our stake, and we will be playing against the other 4 stakes. This is 14-18 year olds, and will be August 18th from 8am-1pm.  If you need help putting together a team, talk to Sister Haggard.

Have a great week!!! It's a hot one! Stay cool!

Upcoming Activities/Reminders for the week of 6/25-7/1

-As you heard tonight, it is important for ALL YOUTH to take the survey located at www.lds.org/survey7
Please do this ASAP, it takes a little time but your information is needed desperately, as we are apart of 5 stakes in CA that is doing this new pilot of youth curriculum. All leaders have already taken the survey.
- Girls Camp starting......Tuesday!!!
Here are the details:

  • Show up at Sister Haggard's house at 10am with your blanket, pillow, sack lunch, beach stuff, AND A CANNED GOOD! Don't forget the canned good! It will be part of dinner! You can bring canned veggies, beans, meats, clear broth soups, which will be added together to make Hobo stew for dinner. We will have a vegetarian stew and a meat lovers stew :)
  • We will have a devotional, and be making a craft to wear at Girls Camp and then heading to the beach! ( don't know which beach yet )
  • You can bring anyone on this day, you don't have to come to camp to be included on this day!
  • If you happen to have blue nail polish or clear top coat, throw it in your bag because we will be painting our nails blue and then putting star decals on for the theme for Girls Camp, BE STELLAR!
  • That night we will watch a movie back at Sister Haggard's and you can tell your ride to pick you back up at 9pm from her house.

Zzzzzzzz----catch some zzzzzzz's........

THEN.....

  • Meet at Stake center at 8am Wednesday morning!
  • Look at a previous blog post for what you are to bring, DONT FORGET your Altoids tin for a craft!
  • We are going to have an amazing time!!! Remember to leave all snacks at home, for fear of bears or rodents, and I truly don't want to share my sleeping bag with any(thing) else!
  • Going along with the theme, we want to BE STELLAR this week, go out of your comfort zone, make new friends, approach someone you wouldn't normally, look out for people who might be lonely and include them.
The week will FLLLLLLLLY by!!!!!

THEN......

  • We will all fast on Sunday to end Girls Camp.

Just FYI, there will be no Mutual this week for Young Women due to Girls Camp.
